Militza Pérez
Hello, my name is Militza Pérez and I am 12 years old. I would like to tell you a little about my story and how I managed to get ahead despite the adversities.
Since I was very young, I have always loved football, and at the age of 6 I became more and more interested in this sport; I had been in gymnastics, swimming, baseball and dance but nothing caught my attention as much as football.
In the beginning, the yard of my house was my court, my neighborhood mates were my opponents, and together we spent all day playing. Once, in my school, they did some school games and one of the disciplines was futsal. I had been insisting that my mother let me participate which she did not oppose and left me, I was the only girl to participate in this discipline but that never stopped me from having a good time and learning a lot.
After going through 4 years of personal issues, I moved to a city about 8 hours from where I lived. At my old home there were no football schools and moving was a great opportunity for me to enroll in one.
My father was a professor at a university that had just opened a junior soccer school which was looking for boys and girls to form a team. He raised the option of entering it and I accepted instantly.
When my first day of practice arrived I was the only girl enrolled but that never took away my desire to play. My teacher welcomed me with open arms and was willing to teach me everything that was necessary. With great constancy little by little he was acquiring skill and determination when hitting the ball.
While I was playing in that school, I had the opportunity to train with my new school team and I accepted it. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I trained with the university school and on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the school team. 6 months later, both my parents and I made the decision that I would switch to a team of girls, Chico FC was my next club. There were girls bigger than me but I knew how to un perfectly with them. The teacher took care to teach me even more and give me the necessary confidence.
After about three months, Chico FC decided to close his women's team so I had to go to a new team; Miners of Guyana. At first it was not easy and I did not feel comfortable with my new equipment which brought some inconvenience. Over time, that teacher who had been my coach at Chico FC, became my coach again.
I am a happy midfielder and I have already debuted in the children's league of my country.
I don't want it to get longer, but to conclude I would like you to know that when you really want something and fight tirelessly for it, the rewards sooner or later always come. Do not change your dream change the world, never doubt your potential but above all things enjoy what they do and ignore the bad comments of people. Thanks to my family I was able to overcome all adversities and start fighting for my dreams.
My dream is to become a professional player and debut with the national team of my country.
Thanks to my sisters Sofia and Isabella and my parents Yanabella and Edwin for supporting me and being with me always.
